My Journal, a 21st century opera that depicts the life of Janice, a thirty-something woman with multiple personalities whom has been convicted of murder. During her incarceration psychologist Dr. Lokansky believes that he can prove to the courts that Janice was not the killer, but it was rather one of her personalities. And because of this, she should not be convicted of the death penalty. Act I opens with Janice in a psychiatry ward where she is being evaluated by psychologist Dr. Lokansky. During the conversation, each personality intermittently comes to the surface at which time each personality’s story is played out on stage. At the end of the conversation Dr. Lokansky manages to bring all three personalities to the fore.

Unlike Act I, Act II explores the resolution of each personality. Act II opens with the three personalities, Amy, Joy, & Cassandra, locked in a room and they begin to converse about their life’s experiences As the three women begin to talk, the initially event that created their character, as seen in Act I, is performed again, but unlike Act I the climax of each event is performed. At the end of each conversation the resolution of a personality occurs. After the resolution of all personalities, Janice experiences freedom, but becomes insecure of it. Due to this insecurity, she imposes her own death sentence.
